A True Polymath

In life, knowing what you want to do is one of the biggest parts. And, here I am, still wishing I knew what exactly that was.

My entire life people have asked me what I want to do with my future. In high school, I’d always answer that I didn’t know. As a college freshman, I was undeclared. Going into my sophomore year, I knew I wanted to do something in science. By the end of the semester, I had my major picked out and I thought it would put an end to the discomfort from answering that I didn’t know all the time.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. Now people ask me what I want to do with my major. I tell them that I honestly have no clue, but that being a science major leaves me open with endless possibilities. The world is my oyster in anything science. But it would seem, however, that I’m back to where I started.

I envy my friends who have their futures mapped out. They know exactly where they hope to end up and what path to take. If I knew it’d make things so much simpler. Knowing in my heart what I’m most passionate about is hard because I have so many interests and various talents. It’s hard to pick just one that I’d be happy doing for the rest of my life. Therefore, I have decided, while many people know exactly what they want to do, I can be free to dabble in many things in life as long as I’m able to support myself with my education somehow.

In time, sooner or later, maybe I’ll stumble upon my life’s calling which satisfies all my interests. But, in the meantime, hopefully my uncertainty will give me the ability to explore and just maybe there’ll be more adventure to be had along the way.

I’m a true polymath at heart. A common Renaissance Man, you might say.
